T-Mobile have today launched the Nokia 5800 Chome as an exclusive in the UK and also offer the Chome 5800 as a ‘Comes With Music’ version.

Comes With Music has come into some stick recently for poor sales but it is nice too see another network pick up the music service giving customers unlimited music downloads

1

The Nokia 5800 Chome is free from Combi 20 on 18 month contracts and on all Flext deals which start from £40 a month.  The ‘Comes With Music’ edition costs just £5 a month more so starting from £25 on Combi 20 over 18 months.

Both versions are available online and in your local T-Mobile store as of today!.

(please note the reason for my green hands was dressing up today for halloween… I’m not normally green)

N-Gage To Stop In 2010

October 30, 2009 by Dan Carter

Nokia have announced that N-Gage is to stop it’s gaming platform in September 2010.  Over on the N-Gage Blog the following information was posted today:

As we continue to move Nokia’s services under the Ovi umbrella, Ovi Store is the one-stop-shop for all your mobile content. If you’re looking for the latest apps, games and other mobile content, Ovi Store is available in more than 180 countries. And remember, content is for everyone so start downloading today.

So, you might ask, what will happen to the current N-Gage platform?
N-Gage games can be purchased until the end of September 2010. While the N-Gage.com site together with the N-Gage Arena and other community features will remain in operation throughout 2010, the Ovi Store will be the new central place for all the mobile games that Nokia and other publishers offer from this point forward. We will no longer publish new games for the N-Gage platform.

What will happen to N-Gage Arena?
N-Gage Arena will remain in operation throughout 2010 and players can e.g. keep posting their high scores until then. We understand that people value the ability to manage their games and communicate about them, and we are working on offering such community elements through Ovi. Games publishers are free to use community features of their choosing in their apps, the feature set is not defined by Nokia. Social Networking applications are some of the most downloaded on Ovi Store, emphasing the power of connecting people.

What will happen to my games?
Your games are safe – all your purchased N-Gage games will continue to work on your N-Gage compatible mobile device and they’re yours to keep. However, community features of the games will not be functional after 2010.

Do you have plans to bring community elements to the Ovi Store gaming experience?
Yes, we understand how important community is to our gamers. You can already post reviews of games and other apps in the Ovi Store. We are actively working on offering more community elements through Ovi and we encourage developers to use community features in their applications. Stay tuned – there’s more to come on this.

Why doesn’t Nokia keep N-Gage as a separate gaming platform?
As mobile gaming evolves and begins to encompass social gaming, we want to offer one store front with an even broader portfolio of games – games for everyone. It’s much more convenient to have one place to get all your mobile games, and this it what Ovi Store https://store.ovi.com/games provides. Mobile gaming is one of the most popular activities in the Ovi Store, with games being the #2 most downloaded category for premium content. And besides having all mobile games in one place, people can access other services like Mail, Maps, Music and many more via www.ovi.com.

What will happen to N-Gage.com?
The N-Gage.com site will remain in operation throughout 2010, with the exception of the N-Gage Store which will remain open until the end of September 2010. However, we recommend people to visit Ovi Store to play the latest games – many familiar games and so much more.

Will you stop shipping devices with the N-Gage application pre-installed?
We will continue to sell devices with N-Gage application pre-installed for some time, however we will no longer ship new devices with the application pre-installed.
Games will be available through the Ovi Store which is already supported by 100 Nokia device models and growing. Ovi Store will be pre-installed on most new compatible Nokia devices including Symbian S60 & Series 40 from Q4 2009.

Thank you for being part of the N-Gage community and your participation over the years. It is important we share this information with you first as we know how much the N-Gage Community means to you, and that being up to date on the latest gaming information is of importance.

We appreciate your contributions and loyalty to the N-Gage community and service, and we hope to continue to hear from you via Ovi. See you in the Games!

Sign up here to Ovi for more news about games, apps and other mobile content in Ovi Store

Sad news for us gaming fans, especially with the iPhone being pushed for mobile games as well as the new PSP Go and Nintendo DSi already in the games market.  N-Gage Arena would have been even better if advertised and pushed in the right way, especially with the unlimited data now on offer from most mobile networks

Ovi Good Things Launched: Brief Round up!

October 29, 2009 by Christian Haslam

On Friday Nokia launched their new service called Good Things. Basically, you can go onto Nokia Maps and mark your own place of interest, or “Good Things” which will then be shown publicly. For instance, if you have a favourite restaurant, and you want to tell others about it, you simply mark it as a good thing on Ovi Maps, and then everyone else can see it!

They launched the service in style with a Giant arrow the size of 2 double decker buses hanging over central london with a giant screen on it, and WOMWorld/Nokia were kind enough to take me and 9 other people to the launch of it.

We started at the hotel and were split into pairs. We were then sent off 1 at a time around london with only a GPS coordinate and a N97 each to find our way around. We had 5 locations to visit and each team had a task to do in 1 of the 5 locations. I was paired up with Michael Hell from Symbian freak. Here are so photos from our trip around London.

Our task was to plot the coordinates of the 4 plinths in Trafalgar square.

We then all met up just outside The tower of London where we were rounded onto a private boat. We had a short tour of London from the sea and then we stopped just infront of the arrow. To all of our surprise our names were all put on the giant arrow over London!

On the second day we left bright and early to go to the press launch of Good Things. this was held right at the very top of city hall (The big egg shaped buiding next to the Arrow). As we approached the  building we saw the arrow had changed to something a bit different.

Alexandra Burke was there to launch Good things with a glamourous photo shoot in front of the big arrow to promote the new service.

We then went to visit the site where the arrow was located. It was a large abandoned car park just the other side of Tower Bridge. Thanks to Jay from My Nokia Blog for the video.

And here we are in the actual control room for the Arrow.

We then made our way back to the Hotel where the Product manager for OVI Good Things and OVI Maps was waiting for us to take any questions we had.

Sorry there wernt more photographs, my Battery gave up halfway through the day so I couldn’t get many photos!

So what do you guys think of the idea of Good Things? I think its a great thing and will certainly be using it when I go off on my travels in the future to find interesting places! Levae your coments below, and dont forget to post your good things on OVI Maps!

Nokia’s latest ad campaign sees them giving away an around the world trip and 4 Nokia N900 smartphones.

Inv_generic

It seems the groom has really done it this time. After he wakes up after his stag party and realises he’s late for the wedding, him and his mates chuck some clothes on and rush out the door into a taxi. They finally arrive at the chapel only to soon realise its the wrong chapel! Had he had his N900 on him, it might have been a bit different.

The Bride isn’t happy and decided to see all the grooms and best mans presents on ebay, which just happens to be 4 N900s and an around the world trip!

All the items will be sold for only $1 each with Buy it Now, so head over to the brides page and see if you can bag yourself a N900 or even an around the world trip here! Get To The Good Things………

October 20, 2009 by Christian Haslam

The other day I received a call from Katie from our good friends over at WOM World and she invited me to an event, although it was all a bit secretive. All I knew was it was something to do with maps. This morning I received a package which contained a white N97 and a small plastic card. Here are some pictures.

Watch the space over the next few days for news and info of the launch of what seems to be a new service to do with maps. Also visit here for a taster.

Nokia’s N97 Camera Scratch Response

October 8, 2009 by Dan Carter

Those of you with Nokia N97’s may have heard about the issue with some versions and the camera cover scratching the glass that covers the lens which causes issues when taking photos.

Micky from NokiaUsers has been very vocal about this and it was also a hot topic we discussed at Nokia World this year.

A big thank’s to Ray from Nokia for emailing us the response from Nokia which is

These folk are certainly aware that there is a number of Nokia N97’s where the lens cover may have been mounted too close to the lens glass. Given the sales volume of the unit this is relatively rare however this does mean that in some instances particles of dust, grit, sand or similar could get stuck under the cover and this in turn may affect the lens.  If your Nokia N97 readers notice that the image quality of their Nokia N97 is affected by this, the team recommends that, if cleaning the lens with a soft cloth does not solve the problem then they should get in contact with their closest Nokia Care Point  (these are listed on  www.nokia.com where the Nokia Care Point staff  can then determine whether or not the lens and or the lens cover mechanism needs replacing under the device warranty.

So there we have it folks, if your N97 has been effected by scratches on the lens visit your local Nokia Care Point and get it fixed under warrenty
