I have had a Vertu Ascent RHV-3 MSS11 since new (Quite a few years now) and I have to say that it is one of the single best products I have ever owned.

I don't say this lightly- I have owned every early adopter product over the last 10 years- Startac, 8800 etc. but they have all failed both structurally and technically every single time. I had 7 different Startac's and 5 or 6 8800's.

I realised that what I really wanted was a roubust, stylish and simple phone that just makes calls, stores notes and contacts etc. I took a chance on the Vertu and have to say that it is so well built and tactile that it is a pleasure to use as a result.

I have also owned most other benchmark products in other areas- watches, cars, PC's etc. but I still rate the Vertu as far superior in terms of design and build.

I would say that its important to look at the overall cost in relation to the length of life of the product and in this case, it works out a much more reasonable purchase then you would first think.

I don't study the new product launches as a consequence as I have absolutely no desire to change the phone on the forseeable future. I am having the leather replaced this year at a cost of some £320 but thats after 4 years- its optional as the stitching is discoloured from the dye in my trouser pockets but its not a necessity.

If you can cover the high initial cost then I would absolutely recommend one- stay with the basic models- Ascent etc. but you will not be disappointed.

I don't use the Concierge service by the way- never have, never will. Get an Amex if you want the same service.
