Nokia Announce 6700, 6303 & 2700

Nokia today announced the Nokia 6700 classic, the Nokia 6303 classic and the Nokia 2700 classic, three devices that build on the formula that made Nokia the world leader in mobile phones. The new trio combines the functionality and user experience required in today’s hectic times, with premium designs and materials that make them the most beautiful, well built and competitively priced offerings available.

Leading the new collection is the Nokia 6700 classic, which continues the legacy of one of the company’s most successful products, the Nokia 6300. “The Nokia 6300 raised the bar in terms of design and premium materials when it arrived in 2006 and topped all sales records for a mid-range mobile phone. The Nokia 6700 moves that bar even higher with a beautiful, slim design and perfectly balanced practicality,” said Soren Petersen, Senior Vice President, Nokia. “Our new arrival shares the same ‘DNA’ as its predecessor and we believe that it will be one of our best selling devices in 2009,” continued Petersen.

The Nokia 6700 combines smooth surfaces, rich materials and precisely crafted parts with a full metal keymat which completes the premium finish. Improving on all areas of its forerunner, the Nokia 6700 comes with a 5 megapixel camera, assisted GPS navigation with Nokia Maps, and high speed data access meaning sharing images or video is faster and easier than ever. At an estimated retail price of EUR 235, before taxes and subsidies, the Nokia 6700 addresses the original Nokia 6300 customer need and aspiration level perfectly.

At an estimated retail price of EUR 135, before taxes and subsidies, the Nokia 6303 classic is ideal for people that see the current value proposition of the Nokia 6300. The 3.2 megapixel camera comes to life on the large 2.2 inch screen, and with pre-loaded Nokia Maps, the Nokia 6303 combines a long list of features with excellent battery performance. Added to everything else, people can plug any music accessory into the standard 3.5 mm audio jack and have a fully fledged mobile music player able to carry thousands of their favorite tracks.

Rounding off the new arrivals is the Nokia 2700 classic which, at and estimated price of EUR 65 before taxes and subsidies, is one of Nokia’s most affordable, full featured handsets. Offering up to 2GB of storage via the memory card slot, the phone also has an integrated digital music player and a 2.0 megapixel camera, making it equally competent for imaging and music. “These features mean people can save, access and share files in hundreds of formats via Nokia’s online service, Share on Ovi, or a number of other websites. The rich features and simple interface mean that in many cases, the Nokia 2700 classic will provide its owner’s first Internet experience,” concluded Petersen. All three devices are expected to ship in the second quarter of 2009.

Nokia E75 Getting Closer!

January 24, 2009 by Dan Carter

DailyMobile.se have posted up some high res photos of what has been found to be the Nokia E75 for others to see.  At of yet no official announcement has been made about this phone but recently many photos of the E75 have found their way onto the Internet and with Mobile World Congress (Formally 3GSM) only around the corner I would expect to see this device made official then.

Specs so far are sketchy but it does look like the E75 will have a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED light, HSDPA (i assume 3.6mb/s still), WiFi, Bluetooth and a forward facing camera for video calling plus GPS.

Also from the photos you can see the style is from the front like a Nokia E51, from the back has the finish of the E71 and a slide out QWERTY keyboard like you see on the HTC Touch Pro.

Recently I have been very impressed with the overall quality of Nokia’s E-Series.  When I was sent a E66 from WOM World on launch i was really impressed with the build quality, the E71 is my phone of 2008 and was won award after award for design, features and reliability.

If the E75 is anything like the E71 I am seriously becoming more of a E-Series person than a N-Series which I NEVER thought I would be saying

BlackBerry Connect Returning To Nokia?

January 20, 2009 by Dan Carter

There may be light at the end of the tunnel for Nokia E-Series customers who were only months ago gutted to hear RIM and Nokia had parted ways so from the E71 you could no longer use the very popular BlakBerry Connect.

However it now appears that RIM are going to start supporting Nokia devices again according to the information below

Nokia is seeing a good take-up of its new messaging service, the top cellphone vendor’s latest challenge to Blackberry-maker Research in Motion’s (RIM) dominance in mobile email, a Nokia executive told Reuters on Monday.

RIM created the market for corporate mobile email and its dominant position has protected it from Nokia’s attempts to crack the market in recent years.

However, “Clearly, things are heading towards the consumer market and that’s where Nokia has its strength,” Tom Furlong, head of Nokia’s messaging services, told Reuters.

RIM has lately focused on developing its consumer offering.

Nokia — which controls close to 40 percent of the global cellphone market — last month opened its Ovi email offering, targeting first-time email users, and a messaging service, which enables the user to combine many different emails into a cellphone.

“The service is up, people are utilising it, we are getting good traction and good follow up,” Furlong said, adding the company expects to announce its first revenue-sharing agreements with operators for the messaging service within few months.

“With the Nokia messaging service, we are going after consumers, we are not going head-to-head with enterprise e-mail. We are trying to put mobile email to the masses, masses of people around the globe,” he said.

IN TUNE WITH BUSINESS SENTIMENT

Nokia dropped development of its own corporate email product last year, choosing to partner with Microsoft and IBM instead while focusing on developing phones for business users to better challenge RIM.

Nokia says the two deals enable it to mobilise close to 90 percent of corporate emails without any extra investment from corporations.

“I think that probably the dominant theme in 2009 in enterprises is going to be — do we have to be spending that much money on that service,” Furlong said.

When focusing on partnering with Microsoft and IBM for corporate mobile email, Nokia last year dropped support for the Blackberry email service, but Furlong said Nokia users would in future be able to use the service again.

“We are in the interim period of time when we have dropped support ourselves, and Blackberry is readying support for their service on Nokia devices,” he said.

I get asked all the time to buy a BlackBerry from fellow site owner PeterWilson of BerryTastic and What Mobile but so far I have put it off because of my love for Nokia devices.

If i can get a Nokia E71 with BlackBerry for email AND if RIM finally add PIN Messaging into the services I will never have to look at another device again and will be very much a customer for life.

Nokia and RIM if your listening… please make it so!

Nokia 5730 Slide Leaked

January 20, 2009 by Dan Carter

Mobile-Review have posted a big review of the Nokia 5730 which is due to be announced any day.

Based on the same form factor as the also unreleased E75 by housing a slide out keyboard like you see on the HTC Touch Pro the 5730 is under the XpressMusic brand so you get very good music controls.

The video camera at the top of the phone means this is at least 3G but no other specs have been released yet so no news if this is HSDPA or not.

Nokia N79 Now In Petrol Black

January 9, 2009 by Dan Carter

The N79 is still a very new NSeries device and packs a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash.

Now however you can get it in a brand new colour ‘Petrol Black’ as seen here. In my opinion it looks much nicer than the white version and will be a great addition to the range.

Fellow Nokia site ‘Nokia Users‘ have posted:

If the N79 ticked all your boxes, but its white colour fascia put you off, then you might like Nokia’s new colour offering of the Nokia N79, which now is available in Petrol Black, and Steel Grey. Remember, with the N79, you also get three different coloured X-Press-on back covers.

With the white coloured N79 you get the Sea Blue, Olive Green, and Espresso Brown coloured X-Press-on bundle, which has been pretty much the standard until now.

With the Petrol Black model N79, you get a Dark Grey, Steel Grey, and Deep Plum X-Press-on Covers, and finally, with the Steel Grey model, you get a Espresso Brown, Coral Red, and a White X-Press-on back covers, bringing the customizability options much more to your personal taste.

More details, including photos of these colour options can be found on the NSeries website.
