Posts are now starting to flood in about the Nokia N96 and here is another. The other day it was announced that the N96 is shipping and is due to go on sale in the UK this October.
Now comes the announcement that must be making Apple a little worried and that is the N96 will be the first handset you can use the Symbian iPlayer software launching around the same time as the device.
Not only can it match the iPhone by streaming BBC on demand services over WiFi but it can also do this over a 3G/HSDPA network. But (and this is the killer bit) you also DOWNLOAD video onto the large 16gb internal memory and watch within 7 days of the download free of charge.

So those of you who missed Eastenders or who wanted to see this weeks Holby City will now be able to do so with their Nokia N96. I have to add a decent data plan like Web’n'Walk from T-Mobile is a MUST for this handset!.
With the N96 due out next month World Of Nokia are hoping to get hands on a handset in the next 2 weeks to review and once the iPlayer service starts you can expect to see in some detail what a great feature it is!

Apple worried of the N96? No chance. The iPhone has had specific iPlayer goodness since last year.
Your normal S60 3rd edition handset should also support this feature. There isn’t anything specified which points to the service not being available on the n95 for instance.
I think your right about the player coming to other devices like the N95 8GB and maybe even the Samsung i8510 as its Symbian.
However the killer feature for the Symbian version is being able to download the TV you want over 3G to watch later
Now if this also came to the iPhone things would heat up

There is a mobile solution xD
It works via 3G!!
hey thanks for that. i had the original file and tried editing for 3G but got nowhere. Just added in the accepted phones ‘nokiae71-1′ and its installed on my E71 and working over HSDPA so that will be great for traveling back from work every day!
